School emergency preparedness must meet CA State standards, be cost effective, accessible, easy to use, renewable, and help staff provide a wide range of student care during possible emergencies.               EVERY SCHOOL SHOULD HAVE: For every classroom:  Classroom lockdown kit Toilet kit and supplies Privacy curtain/solar blanket OSHA/ANSI approved first aid kit and a detailed first aid/CPR guide Whole class shelter for longer evacuation during inclement weather 1 day water hydration per person w/5 year shelf life Emergency food with 5 year shelf life Infectious disease suppression supplies including N95 masks, nitrile gloves and sanitary wipes Ponchos for rainy day evacuations Emergency blankets Power outage lights Carry bag to bring supplies out during evacuation Other tools For the whole school:  Water storage system for 2 days per person + 5 year preserver Water pumps, distribution containers, and filters for backup safety Privacy shelters for emergency toilets and hygiene supplies BIG first aid kit that includes trauma supplies and stretchers Triage tags and station supplies Equipment for Incident Command and Student Release stations *Classroom supplies are also support whole school student care *** A comprehensive Emergency Response Plan template is also available to help schools implement the Disaster Preparedness component of the CA State required “Safe School Plan”.
